O Thou, My Soul, Return in Peace is a paraphrase of Psalm 116 written
by mathematician, shoemaker and draftsman at a local mill, Hugh Wilson,
composed hymn tunes as a hobby. This psalm of thanksgiving is one of the
most personal. At first declaring God’s praise followed by a recollection of
how the Lord delivered him from his troubles and finally how he will publicly
offer his praises of thanksgiving, it is set to an old Scottish ballad tune
named Martyrdom.
We are thankful to HPC member, Buddy Fox who chose this hymn and
recorded it at his home in Paramus!
Here are some words that were written by Buddy as to why he chose this hymn: "I chose this because I feel like it's a nice anthem for people who experience doubt, like myself. It's sung in hope that at the end of the day we can return to God, whether it be the end of a particular time in our lives or the end of our live altogether."
"O Thou, My Soul, Return in Peace to thine untroubled rest, For thee the
bounty of the Lord abundantly hath blest.
Within God’s house, the house of prayer, my soul shall bless the Lord,
And praises to God’s holy name lat all the saints accord."
